Musical Creation Summer Camp 2009

New Moon Productions and SUN Community Schools presented a unique two-week Summer Camp July 6-17 in which the students created and performed an original musical theatre play.

The students were guided by nurturing professional teachers - Michael Wehrli and Kristina Armetta - in writing a play based on an idea or issue that was of importance to the students.  They created their characters, edited the text, composed the music, rehearsed and performed their own original musical play. Performances were given on the evening of the last Friday, July 17, at 6pm and 8pm.

Through this process the young artists gained self confidence, artistic growth, awareness of the strength of community, and most of all – enjoyed a safe forum where they could express their views and feelings.

What makes this program so unique?  The personal empowerment aspect and the complete ownership of the finished theatrical piece by the students.  Prior class experience is recommended.
